Classic Hertha Berlin Football Shirt Archive

Hertha take their name and colours from a steamship which one of the founders took a day trip on with their father. Their Blue & White stripes mirroring the vessel's smokestack. They went into the inaugural Bundesliga season as regional champions in 1963. However, the club struggled in the political crisis following the erection of the Berlin Wall and were soon relegated. Despite many efforts to merge the club with other Berlin teams due to decades of underperformance and financial struggle, Hertha have managed to maintain their identity. In 2019 businessman Lars Windhorst announced the intention to invest large sums of money into the club to finally give Berlin a team that can compete on the European stage.
