Champions League - History

The UEFA Champions League is a club football competition played every year which is run by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is open to the top-division European clubs.

The first European Cup match took place on 4 September 1955, between Sporting CP and Partizan. It ended in a 3–3 draw. The inaugural final took place at the Parc des Princes between Stade de Reims and Real Madrid. Real Madrid managed to come from behind and win the cup 4-3. Real Madrid managed to defend the cup the following four seasons. This was Real Madrid's fifth consecutive title, a record that still stands today.
