Spain: A Brief History of the Federation and Its Kit
In November of 2006 the Spain National Football Team began an unbeaten streak that lasted nearly 3 years and encompassed 35 matches - a record they share with Brazil. During this streak they won the Euro 2008, beating Germany 1-0 in the final. Then in the summer of 2010, Spain won the FIFA World Cup for the first time in their history, beating the Netherlands 1-0 in the final. Their tiki-taka style of play, consisting of quick, one or two touch passes and constant movement, developed to allow the smaller Spanish players to compete with more physically dominant opponents, had succeeded. David had beaten Goliath on the world's largest stage and the Spanish nation rejoiced.Founded in 1909, the Spanish National Team became affiliated with FIFA in 1913. They did not enter the first World Cup Tournament in 1930 but placed fifth in the 1934 World Cup. Following the tumultuous years of the Spanish Civil War and World War II, the federation won the European Nation's Cup as the host nation in 1964. Major tournament success then eluded the federation until their victory at the Olympic Games in 1992, followed by their current period of unprecedented achievement. Many great footballers have donned the red for their nation, including such greats in recent years as Raúl González, Fernando Morientes, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Andrés Iniesta, David Villa, Fernando Torres, and Cesc Fàbregas.
A Closer Look at the Spain Kit and Other Spain Merchandise
The Spain Home Kit has traditionally been a red shirt with yellow trim accompanied by dark blue shorts and socks, earning the team the nickname La Furia Roja (The Red Fury). The Spain Away Kit has seen numerous colour variations in recent years: white, beige, and various shades of blue have all been used. The crest found on the Spain Home Shirt and Spain Away Shirt is the Spanish Nation Coat of Arms, capped with the new addition of a gold star following their victory at the 2010 World Cup. The year 1909 spans the top of the crest, identifying the year of the federation's inception, though it is not unheard of to find a Spain Shirt bearing the year 1913 atop its crest, the year the Spain National Football Team became affiliated with FIFA. Produced by adidas, the Spain Home Kit and Spain Away Kit are widely accessible to fans, as are Spain T-Shirts, Spain Scarves, Spain Caps, and other array of Spain Training Wear and Spain Accessories to appease fans the world over of the newest world champions.
