Since the country's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 they have worn white shirts with red trim, either black or red shorts and white socks. They became members of FIFA and UEFA in 1992, with Euro 1996 being their first ever qualification campaign. With a collection of exciting attackers including Ketsbaia, Kinkladze and Arveladze they took many teams by surprise including a famous 5-0 win over Wales. In 2018 they became the first team to achieve promotion in the new UEFA Nations League.
