VfL Wolfsburg have high ambitions in the Bundesliga and they will be looking for better fortunes in 2013/14.

Last season, they could only manage 11th after a slight upsurge in form with the arrival of Dieter Hecking as head coach mid-season. Their campaign got off to a shocking start, leaving the board no choice but to axe Felix Magath: the man who won their only Bundesliga title in 2009. Inspired by Diego, Wolfsburg found the right track in the second half of the season.

But their years of free-spending has hindered their progress recently, and huge chunks of the squad has departed in the close season. Yet, Wolfsburg have added an extra sprinkling of quality in Timm Klose for £5m and Daniel Caligiuri for £2m. Overall, the main crux of the team Hecking inheritated has left, like Simon Kjaer, Thomas Kahlenberg and Emmanuel Pogatetz.

Die Wolves are no stranger to bright-green designs, but this time around for 2013/14 Wolfsburg have opted for a white base and a green sash across the chest. That is supplemented by white shorts and white socks. Of course, the club is sponsored by Volkswagen, the club’s main ownership group. In their partnership with Adidas, they have an excellent, wide-ranging merchandise outlet for their supporters.

After recent seasons of difficulty, Wolfsburg are one of many clubs eager to break the dominance of the top-four from last season.
